The Olympus PEN E-PL1 is the third generation device of its kind, where Olympus claims that it offers technology which normally delivers great looking photos in bigger, bulkier and heavier professional Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras as well as High-Definition (HD) camcorders, albeit with the PEN E-PL1 being a whole lot smaller. Targeting shutterbugs who were mulling over a DSLR but didn’t want to deal with the weight and size, the camera’s simple design and easy interface makes it a snap for your average shutterbug to pick this up and start shooting some really amazing images right away without having to go through photography school.

From a pure specification standpoint, it’s hard to knock HTC’s HD2 . Scratch that — it’s impossible to knock the HD2. A 1GHz Snapdragon CPU is just the tip of the iceberg, with the icing on the cake being the 800 x 480 resolution display, 5 megapixel camera, GPS and a downright stunning overall design.

Sanyo just announced a trio of 1080i camcorders for Japan last week, and its now gotten official with some ever so slightly different model for the US, which look to just be the beginning of a new wave of Sanyo camcorders rolling out in the coming weeks and months. As you can see, these ones a bit more subdued than their brightly colored Japanese counterparts, and Sanyo has naturally changed the model names to keep everyone on their toes (they’re now the VPC-GH2, VPC-CG102, and VPC-CG20). You’ll still get the same 1080i video and either 14- or 10-megapixel still images as before, along with a somewhat unique 12x “double-range zoom” on the GH2 and CG102, which apparently lets you switch between a wide-angle and telephoto zoom for videos.

In the cut-throat world of high tech manufacturing, “going rogue” is an ever-present temptation — and no one, from AMD to LG , is immune from scandal. For the latest bit of corporate shenanigans, look no further than Applied Materials, who installs and maintains Samsung’s chip manufacturing equipment — prosecutors in South Korea have accused the company of stealing the latter’s semiconductor technology and leaking it to Hynix Semiconductor (who ranks third in the world in the manufacture of NAND flash, behind Samsung and Toshiba)

We don’t know much about this thing, Ikonoskop is only teasing the bare minimum of specs, but while we don’t expect to be able to afford it, the upcoming A-cam3D is certainly an object of lust. The company has cut its teeth on a $10k 1080p RAW camera, the A-cam dII, and now it’s taking that same tech into the realm of 3D. The new 6 pound unit (including battery and memory) will be able record to 25 or 30 fps in individual RAW sequences, has a TBD pricetag, and will be built on order.
